OESTER

Is a multi media performance collective of director Aïda Gabriëls, dramaturg and PhD Tessa Vannieuwenhuyze, and until recently myself, that focuses mainly on contemporary musical opera performances, where socially cultivated borders are questioned and gender in the heritage of theatre and art is being re-examined.

(I still write for this collective but stepped aside from the business aspect to focus on other projects and the Icelandic geography)

DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS

The enigmatic persona of Salome with her notorious dance of the seven veils has been inhabiting our imagination for ages. She is the talk of the town, yet never speaks for herself. In this radical re-interpretation Salomé sheds the oppressive gaze of desire. What happens when the so-called embodiment of sensuality tears apart the seven veils veiling and unveiling, in order to show her true nature?

Medea.jpg

MEDEAMATERIAL

Heiner Müller’s poem “Verkommenes Ufer Medeamaterial Landschaft Mit Argonauten”, was written in 1981. On the boundary of East- and West-Berlin Müller depersonalises the Medea-figure and comprehends the loss of humanity as a complacent race, convinced of its own apparent eminence. Müller doesn’t spare anyone or anything. Do we really understand what life and human existence are about? Or is it about time to participate in a process of awareness that chants the relativity of our own being? Can we actually take a step back and redefine the core of human nature? Or are we beyond repair and about to be eliminated?
